Here's what I cooked today. All sauces were from the rub and sauce exchange. Thanks again @boston_stoker.
I put the Savenor BBQ sauce on the ribs and 3/4 of the boneless chicken. Everybody loved this sauce.
The rest of the chicken got the Anchor Bar hot sauce suicidal recipe. Damn it was hot but very, very good. My sinuses are now cleaned out.
The squash was tossed with olive oil and then a mesquite rub by McCormicks.
Awesome, awesome meal.___________________________________

What the hell.
Bought a few tri-tips a couple weeks ago. Ate one of them. The other two: seasoned, foodsaver, freeze. Seasoning was garlic, salt, pepper.
Today: thawed one of them out. Put on drying rack with fan. Dried off the outside.
Started medium egg, rigged up an indirect setup so I could tease a little oak smoke into it. Used a CI pan. I slowwwwly ramped up from 200 to 350. When the internal temp was 120, I pulled and left uncovered to cool down, and the heat to distribute.
While the meat rested, opened up the egg and threw on onions and red peppers, highly seasoned with some EVOO.
When the veggies were done, pulled all the crap out of the egg and cooked the tri-tip CAVEMAN style. Right on the coals for 30 seconds a side. Remember, the egg was nuclear at this point.
I started with a clean egg, just put a bit of lump in there so I'd have a more space between the fire and meat in the first stage.
Let it rest for 10 minutes. Internal temp varied between 125 and 131 F.
Cut it in half, cut that half against the grain. Added fresh tomatoes, salsa, coriander chutney (savory not sweet) and the veggies of course. Chowed down. Absolutely wonderful. Nice marbling in the meat, great smoke flavor, tender, and everything worked together. Restaurant quality. (feel like I'm tootin' my own horn, but it is a throwdown)

Oh, and here's the meat after cutting. For some reason the color balance on the cell phone took out the vivid red and made it look overcooked. It wasn't, it was purrrfect.
Sorry, all cell phone pics...I was too lazy to get the SLR out.______________________________________________I love lamp.. -
Here are some fresh patriotic images from this evening...
Didn't get a good vantage point for the show, so I just tried to make the best of where I was at... One year I will find the "sweet" spot for viewing and shooting this show.
Hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th!MSV Chill Spot

Thanks Nola
I was shooting with the shutter on bulb, so as it got darker, I opened the app up so I wouldn't have longerish exposures. Kept the details better in the fireworks. I shot RAW so I was able to bring up the foreground in post a little bit.
There was some light falling on the flag from a streetlight behind me... Using bulb, I try to trigger the shutter just as I hear the whomp of the shell being fired, find I get better results than waiting till the shell goes off.

Awesome. I remember the dark days of film where you wouldn't find out if your shots were exposed properly until a few days later after processing. I have entire rolls where I didn't realize I had exposure compensation on -3 stops.
Used to look up the exposure for weird stuff like fireworks in a book.

OK, We got rained out in Atlanta. Fireworks cancelled on July 3, Torrential Downpour. So, of course, we invited everyone to our house for the 4th. Pot luck - Some on egg, some not. Sausages, Legs, Wings, Corn on the egg. Mojito pork from my Cuban buddies and strawberries from my teen daughter. Spent some time talking to my Cuban friends about their exodus from the Castro regime when they were kids on the Peter Pan flights, their service in Nam in the Army Infantry, and their love of Country. - My best and most memorable 4th ever! We are the light of the world, my friends and let's not forget it.
