    .. Stupid question but dont shop vacs blow out air??? I. E. You suck up the ash and the vented air blows ash dust in the open air
    if you use it w/out a filter of some sort (either a wet filter, or a dry-bag filter) then yes, some (or perhaps most, or all, I dunno) will blow the air out the exhaust hole. 

    Oh, and I also use a shop-vac - it's quick & easy!!

    OK. Im in the lazy group.
    Ash tool, stir, scrap the bottom in the dustpan..
    Before a long and slow or pizza I get the stuff behind the firebox.
    Bx - > NJ ->TX!!! 
    All to get cheaper brisket!
