Season it like you would a steak. Put it in a large zip lock bag and get the air out and submerge it in 110 degree water for an hour (hot tub). You will have to add hot water a couple times to maintain the temp. Then sear direct a couple minutes each side at 700 degrees and then pull it and throw a couple chunks of oak in. Throw the tri tip back on once the egg gets to 400 and cook until internal temp hits 122-125 and then pull and wrap in foil to rest about 10 minutes. Cook time depends on size but most tri tips are 2 pounds or so and will take about a half hour to cook. You don't want to over cook them.
