Trying to decide on what size Egg I need to purchase.  Its normally just me and the wife but I do like to cook for people so were trying to decide between a large or extra large.  I think I will build my own table this is a great site.  What is a good price on a X-Large and a Large.  Thought about looking for a used one but think I will just buy new.

Thanks

Not sure, but if only you and your wife most times, perhaps a combo; medium and small or something - something to think about anyway.  May run around the same price as an XL and you can always use the small or med for a cook for each and use both for company.  Lrg is most popular, I have an XL and have no regrets, but cook for two families most Sundays.  Can't go wrong with either though.

Tweev is right, lrg prob best
  • I stumbled across a great deal on a used large just before Christmas and have no regrets. I usually just cook for the misses and myself. It has been the greatest thing I've bought.

  • I have the XL and it is just the wife and I and we cook about 4 nites a week on it.I have enough room on it to cook whole meals and are all done at the same time. Looking into maybe a Med. to haul around,Due to the fact the XL is so heavy. Get the nest if you dont plan on the table for awhile. My 2 cents worth.

It is just the wife and me and we started with an XL. I really like being able to put all of the food on one level. I finally decided to downsize so we went all the way down to the...large. I do like his combo but have not cooked on a small or mini.

    XL for sure.

    Cook for 4:
    4 burgers
    4 ears of corn
    4 potatoes.

It takes up space pretty fast.
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

I have a large. I think if I wanted more capacity I would go to another large or medium instead of the xl.

If you have the cash, get the XL. The accessories may be fewer, but they are better IMO. The XL has numerous advantages that are not apparent until you cook on both.

That said, I love the large also, but if I could only have 1 grill, the XL wins hands down.
  • I cooked on both and the large is better. Large hands down. Get a 2nd Egg if you want. Better than just a xl.

Prices are all over the board but you can usually find a good package deal. In SC, you can get a large kit for a grand. It inludes egg, nest, mates, gripper, ash tool, starter cubes, and 20lbs charcoal. Great deal. Large is best size from what I have read. My brother has medium and it is too small. XL seems too large for me. All a matter of opinion I guess.

Since you've heard many opinions on size and all are correct. I will just say buy a new one for the warranty. The warranty is not transferable.

Just so you know, if you get an XL you're still allowed to get a second egg. I have the XL and the small. It's a great combo.
  • I have 2 larges and it is just the wife and I.... Although we do like to entertain quite a bit. The first I bought new and the 2nd used. Depending on what you would pay for a lifetime warranty helps to make the decision between used or new. (also availability as used can be tough to find)
2 Large Eggs and no chickens. How's that work? :)

I have a large, but if I could do it all over again I would do a small and XL.

Look for nearby Eggfests. Usually you can buy a demo egg at a great discount. That's what I did. I got a large with nest, plate setter, ash tool, and a bag of ozark oak for $700.

I have two larges and a small and it's just my wife and I at home.  The small gets used for 95% of grill cooks and one large or both gets used for low and slows.  My gut would say get a large small combo, but I could not argue against the XL/small combo.  It just depends on the number of people you cook for.  But, think hard about the small for sure!

There are a lot of things a man can do to earn a divorce. As for the day that grilling in the backyard becomes just cause ... well as Brad Paisley says "I'm gonna miss her".
