Well my egg is finally in it's new home. Now I hope to have more cooking time. I did have a couple of concerns. I made the hole twenty one inches and although it fits without touching I may have given a bit more room especially with the amount of urethane around it. Any thoughts on this?? Fire hazard?? Also I wanted the egg to sit as low as possible and made it fifeteen inches from fire brick to top of table. It clears but just barely. Thinking about placing a piece of hardi board under the brick for an extra quarter inch..

Nice looking table, well done!No idea about the fire hazard.Packerland, Wisconsin

Thanks. I really think it will be fine. Not touching the ceramics. Seen many tables finished the same way.Geaux Tigers!!!

That is a nice looking table.Every day is a bonus day and every meal is a banquet in Winter Springs, Fl !

I would raise the egg or recut the hole. My first table went up in flames and it wasn't touching. Especially with it that close to your house. I will post a picture of my first table later when I'm not on my phone.

Thanks Granny x4.
@Lit I probably won't be cooking with it in the current location. It rolls around. Trying to decide it's permanent location. I realize the egg is tapered, but would have to raise quite a bit to make a real difference. Could make the hole a little bigger I guess.Geaux Tigers!!! -
@Lit. Just wondering. Did your fire start at t he bottom of the egg? I would think it would be hotter at the bottom.Geaux Tigers!!!

You did a nice job on that table for sure. When you take the egg out to
re-cut your hole I would think about setting the egg on the ceramic
feet also. I have seen pictures of tables burning under stone that the
egg is sitting on and the bad thing about that is you can't see it
happening unless you look under the pavers. -
if you can find some, use fire bricks.thebearditspeaks.com. Go there. I write it.

The fire started at the top. The egg was on the ceramic feet on a paver so it didn't get hot.

Here's the pic. I keep about an inch gap now around my eggs. Thats a really nice table you have by the way.

Wow, that's the first tabletop fire I've seen! That sucks.Packerland, Wisconsin -
The egg is sitting on eight full fire bricks already. They are 2 1/2 inches thick, but recessed. I have 2x4s on end under for air flow. I can pull the lower drawer to check it from time to time. I will post some pics. I feel confident in the bottom of the egg. Not sure what I'm gonna do about the top yet.Geaux Tigers!!!

Me too. Seen lots of pics of fires under the egg. First one at the table.
Maybe he was Lit. LolGeaux Tigers!!! -
@Lit: What happened to the egg itself during the fire? Was it still fully functional afterwards?
-
Both eggs were fine just needed to be cleaned. There were flames all around my large when I saw it so I hit it with the hose. I had done pizzas and shut down the egg and then ate and fell asleep on the couch. Woke up like 2 hours later and the table was on fire. I think the plate setter heated up the side of the egg right at table level and caused it because i had been using that table for a year or so. Only good thing is I got to build a bigger table.
