2008 Large Egg Changes

Can any one tell me just exactly what changed in 2008 on the large egg and what time of year did it occur? By what I'm reading the change was about the fire ring diameter and newer models have a smaller ID diameter. I'm interested because I have a newer spider that I want to use a BGE 14 inch stone on.I would also like to use a medium CI grate but I know a medium CI grate wont fit on my spider (I've tried,newer model spider) but I've got at least an inch all around the 14 inch stone sitting on the spider. What was the pre 2008 and after 2008 ID diameter on the firering,when did it change and how much air space is needed for proper airflow?
