Dome Alignment

My dome sits a good bit back, maybe 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch. I have been trying to adjust this through the bands, but I can't. The reason I'm noticing is I just replaced the gasket and I can see the black marks since the new gasket is white. That prompted me to look closely to where the dome is sitting on the body. How do I fix this? I'm been trying to adjust the bands, it doesn't seem to work. It seems like the spring assembly should be longer.

I had a similar problem, here is how I fixed it.

1. Loosen both bands
2. Adjust the lid to line up with the base.
3. Adjust the band position so that you maintain the same distance between the bands all the way around as it is in the back at the hinge.
4. Don't just push the bands to the top/bottom of the ridge for them.

See the pic below, my bands are closer to the opening.


My lid is now aligned and opens easier.
Grandpas Grub has a method posted on the other board that includes removing the spring, but I don't think thats necessary.
