I posted this link earlier today and decided to try it this afternoon.DO NOT waste your time!

It may have been my fault.I used 2 cups of whole wheat flour and followed directions to a T.Dense as a brick!
Glad we are workin tomorrow so I won't ruin anymore groceries for a day or two! :blink:

Bummer Hoss! I have never used water that hot for yeast. I have always used 110-115º maximum. That 120-130º sounds hot to me. Those wee yeasties don't like it to hot. Did it rise any?

Hey, it's not your fault. That's an awful bread recipe. Too much yeast, insufficient kneading, barely any rising time...a bum recipe all around. Whole wheat requires a little extra time and attention, and good bread in general requires WAY more time than this bad recipe suggests. Get your hands on Peter Reinhart's Whole Grain Baking; here's a link to blog that details his 100% whole wheat sandwich loaf recipe: http://youcandoitathome.blogspot.com/2010/10/100-wholewheat-sandwich-bread-peter.html You'll notice that his recipe requires a 1)soaker (12 hrs to overnight) 2)biga (8 hrs), THEN 3)final dough (another couple hrs). That's the secret to good bread: slow, slow fermentation.
Tear that bad loaf into pieces and scatter for the birds. My neighborhood crows love my compost heap; it's a stale-bread buffet. -
