Interesting to see what Costco offers up for their weekly deals. This is apparently what they have (at least locally) this week for $750.
Costco Kamado deal

For that price I would give it serious consideration....and probably take one home.
-
No kidding... It was that model that was linked to? Pro with SS outside?
-
cleaning it :(
-
I got the phone call this a.m. from G's uncle who stated all this. I'm going later today to see if in fact it is exactly as shown.
-
Man that thing weighs a ton! But with 2 inches of material man that must keep in some heat! Grate size comparable to XL... wish they showed a pic of it open.
-
are you sure??
this is what I have found:
Black Pearl Ceramic Kamado Grill and Smoker
Includes: Stand, 2 Side Shelves, 20lb Organic Lump Charcoal, Electric Charcoal Starter & More!
Item # 535268
MikeBon appétit !! -
The black pearl is (I believe) a Grill Dome product.
-
That price must not be correct. Every website that I've looked at has that grill priced at more than $7000.00 and close to $8000.00 with a stainless steel table.

It drives me buggy when I listen to uneducated folk about things they THINK they know about... knowing full well that they usually know little about that which they speak.
THIS is the real deal. Some nice features but a far cry from what he "emphatically" knew....
Sorry for the confusion - I really do know better...
Jackson Grill NOT Kamado Joe.....
He got the price right... and that's about all.. oh, and they throw in a 25# bag of Cowboy Charcoal
Not a very big/hot thermometer range
Actually the "Nest" is pretty nice looking
Cheap-ass sheet metal hinge... wobbly bloody thing
Most importantly - And the sales kid was trying to tell me that is where the Green Eggs are made... he even has a Big Green Egg and it's from China...... yeah, okay buddy.
Nice looking top but I bet it sucks to clean
-
Yep...that's the one we have in the Houston Market!
I5 looks like a capable ceramic cooker...with some nice features and a very reasonable price concidering BGE's recent cost increases.
That said...I'll keep my three Eggs, (complete with the Service.., Warranty.., and the fine Egg community that frequents this place)!!
:PI spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
First thing i want to see is the gasket?? Do they invest a few dollars in thier gasket???
-
The gasket (sorry no pic) was felt and similar to the Kamado Joe gasket which looks the same but is thicker and softer than the Egg gasket.
One different feature this one had is a cushioning pin like a shock absorber on the front that softens the blow if the lid is dropped. -
My nest, mates and spring band are all from China on my Med.
-
The stainless steel stand looks nice (needs bigger casters, though), but if they don't expect the dome temperature to get above 500 degrees, that doesn't show they have much faith in how hot these things can be cranked up to.BJ (Powhatan, VA)

You might wanna take another gander at the thermometer!
:woohoo:
It reads BOTH temp scales.
500...C
1000...FI spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
Am I reading it wrong? I see 260°C and 500°F
-
No. The Jackson ceramic has a thermometer that goes to 550°F. The Pro Joe has a thermometer scaled to 550°C which is approx 1022°F.
-
My bad Rod...
I thought you were still refering to the Pro Joe!

I purchased this exact same grill and stand from my Costco about 8 months ago. I have cooked a number of great dishes on it including a 12 hour Pork shoulder smoke, where it held a continual temp of 250 throughout the entire cook without needing to ad any coal. I cooked a thanksgiving turkey that came out perfect and last superbowl weekend I cooked some jack Daniels wings that were out of this world. I paid $499 for this, nearly half of what a similarly equipped BGE would cost. I purchased a Grilldome indirect cooking grate with a stone that makes a perfect indirect setup. I am very happy with my purchase.
-
Well at least they got one purchased...
-
Laugh all ya want, our Costco sold out of them in a couple weeks. And the $500 I saved over A comparable BGE will buy a lot of meat!
-
And the thermometer actually only goes up to 550F, an inconvenience I've learned to live with...
-
I think you work for the company - 3 posts
-
I can buy a moped and save on gas, however, I will stick with a nice car...
-
I'll stick with my BGE that is tried and true. I am sure that Jackson Grill is a nice grill but there is a lot to be said for a company that has been around for close to 40 years and has such a wonderful reputation. I feel very assured with The Big Green Egg company and everything that comes with my egg. This forum and the following the company has speaks volumes.
-
You just cant accept the fact that there are equally to superior quality kamados out there for much better prices. Yeah sure if I wanted the Mercedes of kamados I'd get a kamomdo kamado, which puts every other kamado out there to shame. Green Egg's a good grill, my neighbors got one cooks great. However my other neighbor's got an old broken down Japanese kamado that has no firebox or chimney top. He cooks meals on that grill that puts the rest of the neighborhood to shame
-
My local Costco had some of these last summer, too. I think the price was more like 550 here. This was the first ceramic grill I'd ever seen. Both the daisy wheel and the lower vent were marked with numbers to help the user reach a consistent heat time after time. They sold out fast so I went looking for an Egg. The main difference I noticed between the two units was the weight. The egg feels way more substantial. The Vision did seem like a nice grill and a great value. I probably would have walked out with one if I would have had the money at the time. Now I have my egg, though, and I can't imagine owning anything else.

Couldn't agree with Irishdevil more. John Ross sounds like an inside man.

John Ross just sounds to me like a dude that bought another grill. no chevy dealer would go into a Ford forum and try to sell Chevys to people who already own Fords.
time will tell if the thing holds up as well, warranty support is as good, etc.
