Lid Adjustment question

Just put on the spatch turkey about 20 minutes ago and I noticed that egg has not come back up to temp. when checking on it I notice a fair amount of smoke escaping from the base and lid. I have never had this issue before. Any advice on this are aadjustments needed or should I learn to live with it ( I am anal about letting no small thing go)

whens the last time you tightened the bands, either the band slipped or the gasket is wearing down. resetting the bands might help

Ken you may consider doing the dollar bill test and read adjust your dome. Depending on your location you could do it at your earliest convenience or wait until spring. Tim

Does the weather effect the $bill test in other words if it is 15 degrees other than me being cold would it matter?

A little smoke escaping is not the reason your temp hasn't come back up.

Is the bird so high in the dome that the thermometer stem is touching (or very close to) the turkey?

You put in a LOT of cold mass. Open the vents slightly if you want and keep an eye on it - but it will come back.

Temp was stable at 400 when bird went on 40 minutes ago. I have opened vents way over the 400 range, and have been watching, small bird not touching probe.

are cooking it direct, maybe the bird is acting like an inderect setup slowing the heatflow to the temp gage. like was said, smoke leaking out shouldnt effect a thing unless maybe its really windy
