Just got a new smokeware cap. Do you guys put the gasket on the egg or the cap?

Friends, I need help removing the grease and residue buildup on the outside of the top vent, so I can put on the gasket for the new smokeware cap that I got. Smokeware suggested a rag and alcohol, which I tried, and is very slow go. Any tips or tricks?

OK, I just finished a 350 degree smoke. Closed the smokeware SS cap. Closed the bottom vent. I witnessed a small but significant drift of smoke coming from the cap. Not from the base, but from the slots, so my felt seal on the based is sealed. I removed the Smokeware SS cap, and placed my BGE ceramic cap on. It still had a…

Try the Smokeware cap with the gasket that is on the egg now. If the cap fits tight, you're golden. If it's not tight, you might consider replacing the BGE gasket with the gasket that comes with the Smokeware Cap. A tight fit will help with shut down.

I bought a smokeware cap for my LBGE during their 4th of July sale. My egg is only 6 weeks old, do I need to replace my gasket with theirs, add the smokeware gasket so there is 2 of them, or just use the egg gasket and replace it when the eggs is worn out?
