  • Re: Kick Ash Basket question

I was looking at ti on Amazon and the back of the packaging says not to leave it in for "high temperature clean outs" and to put the original grate back in.
Whoa, I missed that.  Glad to know, thanks!
  • Re: Time of the year. Beans or no beans in chilli??

    I love chili with beans.
    I love chili without beans.
Just like hamburgers with ketchup, or without; they're both great.
Can't we all just get along?
Now, anyone who tries to pass off "white chicken stew" as any kind of chili, or ketchup on hot dogs, needs to have their fingernails pulled off with pliers and burned on a pile of Cowboy charcoal!  :anguished:
  • Re: OT: turntable suggestions?

Also verify what cartridge they can "drive" with their audio equipment.  There are two types "moving magnet or MM", and "moving coil, MC". Not all Preamps or integrated amps with phono outputs can drive both so ensure you get the right kind.  I believe most widely used general public consumer goods, such as AV receivers,  will use MM.
Sadly, a lot of newer AVRs don't even have MM/phono inputs anymore either.  I had to pick up a $50 Audio Technica standalone preamp to get the signal high enough to work.
I had a wonderful Technics turntable w/Shure V15 Type V cartridge, until my CD shelf unit fell off the wall and smashed it.  Have been using a Yamaha turntable (w/same cartridge) for the last ~25 years (I'm not a "vinyl snob" but do have about 1,700 albums which either weren't made into CDs, or aren't worth "double-dipping" for).
  • Re: John Glenn, RIP

Didn't mean to throw a turd in the punchbowl, but most if not all "heroes", with their massive "drive", have their faults.
  • Re: OT: Do you still read a newspaper?

I still read the local papers, and pay for them (Ogden's daily, and Salt Lake City's on the weekends).  Also schedule my weekly lunch at the Vietnam Pho place on Thursdays, so I can grab SLC's "independent" weekly (the lds church has chased it out of all the local grocery stories).
As in health care, the US is the only advanced nation that doesn't fund an independent news organization, like the BBC (remember that, when asked what grotesque federal expenditure he'd eliminate as President, "Mittens" Romney only named PBS/NPR, all 0.03% of the federal budget of it, he much preferred the billionaire-funded Faux News, which to this day has persuaded the poor and unemployed to continue to elect billionaires, to keep the wealth at the top where it belongs).  Whups, got distracted there!
I'll continue to pay for "independent" news sources.  I'm also fortunate in that, as a federal employee, I get access to the daily "Early Bird" which compiles defense/political news stories from most national news sources (excluding Faux News, by the way).  Gives me a good view of happenings, from both the right and the left's viewpoints.  I wish more Americans would read news from both sides, its worthwhile.
