My wifes aortic heart valve replacement surgery went extremely well today. Minimaly invasive procedure took less than 4 hrs, she should be home by the end of the week. :cheer:

Glad to hear it, Frank!! I had no idea heart surgery could be "minimally invasive"?!!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

"minimally invasive"
amazing.
wife has had two aorta surgeries, maybe twenty and twelve years ago.
anything but "minimally invasive" then. they go in thru the back? -
Thanks all, just a few years ago [and still in some patients] the aortic valve replacement required splitting the sternum, which adds hours to the procedure and months to the recovery. Now, with the minimal invasive method, the surgery is half the time and recovery is 6 weeks instead of six months. Nothing short of amazing :cheer:
I will be sure to show her all of your responses when she gets home

Stike,
No, they went in above her right breast with a 2" incision and another in her groin for the heart-lung machine and god knows what else, but the surgeon worked through that small cut in her chest. They do use some sort of "spreader" device to create a little more access for the procedure.

Great news! All the BEST to you and yours!

Prayers offered for your wife and her continued recovery. My husband underwent an aortic valve replacement a little over a year ago - he is doing much better. I sincerely hope that your wife is blessed by this procedure - the miracles of modern medicine never cease to amaze, but the blessings of our Lord are simply divine.
-
Exactly what we wanted to hear.
Good news.

Great to hear Capt. Frank. Give her our best and you too. There are always two in a deal like this. The terms minimally invasive, slight concussion and my favorite "some discomfort" are always terms applied to someone else. Take care of her and yourself.
-
Thanks to all, it has been a long day, I'm signing off for the night:)
