If you remove a 30 minute trip through the egg @ 400
Take away the lattice top
And the garlic, olive oil, salt & pepper
And the basil
And the tomatoes
And the pepperoni
And the mozzarella
You are left with perhaps one of mankind’s greatest achievements, pie dough
On the plate
The pizza pie pop is the latest incarnation in the recent line of hand-held pies, although I ran out of mozzarella , & in an interesting twist, thieved the baby bell idea directly from tweev, as it was all we had left in the cheese department, worked like a charm.

Great pics. My niece and nephew will go crazy over the pizza pops
-
awesome zippy, what king of dough did you use for the pizza pie pops?
-
giantwing, that is standard pie dough (standard for me anyway, I only know one way to make it - 2 cups of flour, 1/3 cup each of butter and shortening, pinch of salt, 5 tablespoons of water. If making dessert pie, then add a pinch of nutmeg & cinnamon). There should be a marinara dipping sauce for them, but I was slakinhappy in the hut

I really love the way you presented this... very creative. the pie looks great as well.
last night i caught this show on tv called man vs. food(I think) and they showcased a deep dish pizza from chicago...
This is definitely something I'm going to try.context is important -
funny you should mention that, in all the years I've tried to duplicate chicago pizza, I've done nothing but strike out, & ultimatley gave up trying. This wasn't at all intended to be a chicago pizza obviously, or even a version of it, but after taking a bite, it's the first thing that came to mind. I've always thought that chicago crust had a biscuit quality to it, & turns out, at least from a flavor standpoint, this pie was closer to chicago dough than anything I'd done before, go figure. Now, if I could only figure out how to match the texture & depth of the real stuff I might be on to something    yea right
