What I have here is a ground hog with 9 lives. It lives under my neighbors out building and sneaks out to steal my apples from under my apple tree. If it hears the least sound it is off and running for shelter. It's kinda cute but they burrow under ground and dig up rocks and mess your yard up. Maybe I should name it but I don't know the sex. :S Perhaps a generic name like Toto or Fefe :lol:

Do I leave the apple in his mouth?

LOL. I would say you would want to boil it to remove as much natural flavor as possible. Then slow roast with apple in mouth and slathered in sauce.

This is what i do with them....
    IMG00042.jpg

We routinely kill ground hogs from a local farm. They kill crops, cause live stock to break their legs from walking in their holes, equipment can hit a sink hole and get stuck, basically cause major problems. All are taken with head shots, they are killed instantly, average range 250yards. Longest about 400yards. Costom 22-250 w/handloaded ammo. 6-24 scope...

I've even killed them in my back yard, and i live in suburbs. They burrowed under my shed. If you have any pets, cats, dogs, etc, and they go down one of their holes a groundhog will mess them up bad. They've got claws like you wouldn't beleive...

Great shot, HP. I've been wanting a good varmint rifle, and this just makes me want one all the more.
  • I dunno: a creature feedin' on apples might taste pretty good. I'd probably grind (him/her) up and make dirty rice or jambalaya. Or, go for the typical cajun response to overly gamy or tough meat: sauce piquante. It's a slow-cooked, spicy tomato & green pepper sauce, rather thick. The acidity of the tomatoes tenderizes & mellows various meats. Typical sauce piquantes are made with alligator, turtle, rabbit, and squirrel. Here's my shrimp sauce piquante recipe, though obviously you don't cook shrimp for a long time like game: http://bouillie.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/shrimp-sauce-piquante/

I have a .17HMR with a 4-6x50 scope that would plug him nicely from quite a long distance. Just say the word.

I have ghosts of several small animals willing to testify that the weapon offers a quick and painless dispatch.

    GROUNDHOG AND SWEET POTATOES
    Submitted by: TrophyHunter

    1 Groundhog
    Cold water
    Salt
    Pepper
    Sweet potatoes or white potatoes
    Cornbread

The animal should be dressed as soon as possible and well soaked for several hours in cold, salty water. All excess fat may be trimmed off after the meat is cold. Parboil to remove and remaining fat and drain well. Place in a moderate oven and pack sweet potatoes or even white
potatoes all around. Salt and pepper the meat and bake unti brown. Be sure the potatoes are thoroughly cooked. Serve with cornbread and use the heavy gravy that forms during baking.

  • That second one looks like it could be remote controlled. A little tech and over the web, or when your guru says its about cleaning time from being up to temperature.

Nice pics gator bait! I've got the exact same front rest, Rock BR. Love to have a cooper, can't afford one right now. Cooper or CZ makes excellent varmint rifles as well. highly accurate out of box. Those are all fine looking weapons, very nice. I've got a few myself, allthough don't have any pics. Here's a couple that i do have offhand

Hey BT, I haven't done any shooting in a long time. It's difficult to find a good place to shoot with out investing a weeks worth of gas in it to boot. One of these days I'm going to have to start going up to Punta Gorda to Cecil Webb, about 40 miles each way. One of the reasons I'm into the .22LR is because it is affordable.

The Cooper is a work of art. I have three Coopers, the other two are a Custom Classic in .22 Mag and a Western Classic in .22LR. They are all gorgeous. I have other toys that need to be played with on the bench rest range as well.

    A pair of Suhl's .22LR, a 150-1 and a 150
    Suhl_150_1_E.jpg

    Suhl_150_1_F.jpg

And a beautiful Winchester 52D .22LR I need to take some better pictures of.

    Win52D_small_2.jpg

    Win52D_small_3.jpg

I have a couple Weaver 36X target scopes to be mounted. Can't decide where to put them. Maybe one on a Suhl and one on the 52D, can always swap them but would rather not. Someday will have to spring for another scope.

This should be OT at least or maybe a Woosday post.

Hahahaha, I can't afford to play with the big boys and girls. I've seen the photos on your site and it looks like great fun. Your lucky LC enjoys it also, you obviously married well.

It's amazing how obsessed we can get with putting a little piece of lead EXACTLY where we want it. I have a brother that does the same but with pellets. He does great and avoids some of the Massachusetts gun laws.

I'm glad I started this post. It was humorous and turned out to be very interesting. About three months ago while I was paying my taxes Harley my tax man sold me this S&W 40 cal. Model 410 and all the clips and holster and 100 rounds for $500. Nice tax man hey. ;)

At first I thought I paid to much but I like shooting it so, that's good enough for me.

Last Sunday's cook out in our neighbor's back yard not more than 30 feet from us. Sorry about the pic and he ran off after I took it. Looks like about 6 inch spike buck.
