Enjoyed putting this together this past weekend and completing tonight.
Laid out a bunch of kitchenalia
Made a frame out of an ordinary 2 x 4 - little table saw work and some sanding - 5 coats of high gloss on the frame and primed the plywood
Dado for the plywood
Covered the plywood with some material - will hang between two antique Ogee Clocks
Put all the pieces on with brads
I like it
milk skimmers, potato mashers, bread board, apple corer, nut crackers, cork screws, veggie choppers, sugar nips
My favorite piece - a well used spoon from the 1700s

What a collection, looks priceless. Great idea on your display. I like it a lot.

They are sugar nips - likely Georgian. Not sure if I would leave them on my porch unless it was weather protected, enclosed, and lockable.
Here is some info on sugar nips http://www.rubylane.com/shops/molotov/item/7408 -

Nice collection of instruments of the past. You did good by salvaging them and then turning them into art.
My aunt in Louisiana died while I was in the Army back in the 60's. She lived in the same house she was born in. It dated back to the 1830's or so and contained items from that time on, including hundreds of kitchen utensils, all well worn.
I would love to have been able to buy the house and its contents when she died but alas, my E-5 pay just wasn't enough for that dream.
Your well-worn spoon looks exactly like one she had. I also recognize many of the other items.
They look great on your wall.
Just think, one day someone will be hanging my Lawn Ranger Grid Lifter and ceramic baking stone and ash rake on a museum wall in the "Good Old Days Room."

Cool Idea--I have a bunch of grocery store and meat market stuff from the 40's that belonged to my Dad and Grandad. I may do the same thing some day. Thanks for the idea

AWESOME, Frank!

Not particularly valueable but kind of neat
Made by the Jasper Clock company in New England - they went out of business in 1840
New England had a bunch of clock makers that started stamping parts and making clocks that ordinary folks could afford
While the English and French were still making fine timepieces one at a time, the Americans, Germans, and Swiss started mass producing clocks that the masses could afford
One story goes that a boat load off clocks hit the UK in the early 1800s and the tax man asked the value for import duties - he was told they were the equivalent of $1 each and he suspected they were lowballing him and said "yeah right - I'll buy the whole boat load". Sold him the boat load and starting loading another boat -
Nice gadgets, Frank...but where is the antique mango slicer??? BTW, you got mail, my friend!

How could I have functioned all these years without sugar nips?
Thanks for sharing your beautiful woodwork Frank and provding an antiques lesson as a bonus. -
