Pan fried chicken-- 1st time on egg

I won six chickens at a meat shoot the other day. I can only eat so many spatchcock chickens. So tonight I got out the CI skillet and made some pan fried chicken. I have not fried chicken in at least 10 years.(hate the mess and my house smelling like KFC for days) I will not wait that long again.

Nice...just watch that oil, it burns like a flashback in the egg if it gets dumped. I gotta do this soon!Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241

Mmmmm!! I love fried chicken. Unfortunatley my heart can't handle the cholesterol and it sure packs the pounds on.

BEEE-U-TEE-FUL!Ain't no chicken like a FRIED chicken!!! :woohoo:

I watched that closely. The worst part was some clouds rolled in towards the end and started to sprinkle. Luckily it did not rain.

That's what the Simcor is for. Actually Fried foods are not common at all at are house.

You are one step away from burning your house down. A very great friend of mine tried that. He will go nameless (Lives in Texas).
Please be carefull.

It is Lawn Ranger, but don't tell anyone. :woohoo: -
I bet that tasted really good, especially if you included some of my favorite pieces..... the gizzards. Heheee.
However, for the benefit of the younger cooks out there, a grease fire in a barbecue pit, grill or just a campfire is a horrible thing. Use extreme caution. And it happens fast. I have a few battle scars... My worst one happened when turning a trout, and involved a visit to a plastic surgeon. He looked at my hand for about 5 seconds, then asked me to turn around and drop my pants. He wanted to see what kind of grafting material he had to work with.
That said, I still do it, especially with fish but I wear gloves and glasses. I also make sure spectators stand back.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
Good ADVISE!

Can you tell me how hard it is to regulate the temperature?

Looks great, but too dangerous for me! Plus I would miss my "Cajun Sparkle" too much.

That looks amazing and I bet it tasted even better. You are a braver man than I, I get a little freaked out by even using my deep fryer. Hot oil plus fire is bad, mmmkay!!
-
Very nice I think I would be too nervous to pan fry over a fire

I was pretty surprised to see a fried eggplant recipe in the new BGE cookbook. I did not read that recipe, so I don't know what kind of safety precautions they recommended, but it IS in there. My dealer made the eggplant fries a couple weeks ago, and they were fantastic. I'd stick to stove-top deep frying, myself.

This is an example of what I'm comfortable with getting away with near open flames. I'm using a small amount of oil, a pan with high sides, and the fish and shrimp are a pretty short cook.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
The pan is pretty deep. You just got to be careful. I wore my welding gloves when doing it. If it did catch fire all I would have to do is shut down the egg and the fire would go out.
I have seen plenty of turkey fryer fires, this seemed safer to me. -
happy eggin

I agree with you Mike! Ain't no way in hades I am putting a big pan of grease in my egg, I would burn down Atlanta all over again!!!!

I actually have a fry vat in my kitchen. I have only used it once to cook meat in it since I got the egg. I mainly cook fries and okra in it. To dangerous otherwise. I don't even like to cook in oil on the stove in frying pans. I have a $125 Caphalon "chicken fryer" pan that I will not use. One grease fire is all it takes to scare the bejeebers out of you, I had mine and never again!
