After reading many post on the forum, I decided to try my first pork butt today. It actually took longer to cook than I expected, but I have to say that I was impressed with the way the BGE held its temperature without continuous adjustments. A big thanks to everyone that post on the forum and share their recipes and techniques. Oh, I almost forgot, the pork butt was eggellent and the bark was the best that I've ever cooked.
Preparation - mustard and rub on the 5-6 lb butt
250 degrees for 13 hours
The bark
The finished product

Looks like you hit the nail on the head. Nicely done. Best thing about pulled pork is any left overs are about as good as the first days!

Looks terrific I can almost smell it from here. Haven't done one in a while. I've got a 7 pounder in the freezer so I'm going to have to put it to work. Thanks for posting.

that looks great. Next time i bet you load the egg up with as much as you can fit.

Thailandjohb - I cooked the 5-6 lb butt at 250 degrees for 9 hours until I got through the plateau then I cranked the egg up to 290 until the internal temperature reached 200 degrees. I pretty much followed the directions from the Naked Whiz's site and other Eggers. I think that the higher temperature at the end helped to crisp up the bark.

SteveinTN - the one pork butt did look kinda lonely on the BGE all by itself. And your correct, next time I'll be cooking a couple of butts at a time. We devoured the butt in one setting.

One and done. Nice job on your first PB.

Was that from "Sponge Hog Square Butt" ? I have never seen one shaped quite like that. None the less it looks tremendous. Great Job on your first butt.

Nope. The pork butt came from a local butcher shop here in Tulsa. It was pretty square though.
