Tomato Pie question.

I'm taking a stab at the tomato pie recipe today and was wondering if anyone has used sour cream instead of mayo? I have a hard time imagining cooking a cup of mayo...freaks me out a little. Or maybe it's because I haven't finished the first cup of coffee yet.
Any other tips would be helpful.
