i can never tell if you are trying to be helpful, trying to impress, or trying to intimidate.
lately, it's been oh-for-three.
(intelligence isn't indicated by how many words you use. rather, how few. keep at it. all those words, you sound like a frustrated politician) -
I try for A, B is completely out of my hands, and I had to laugh at C.

I have the 200-1000 on the large, BGE orginal on the mwdium and the Mini. Got the 200-1000 just because I thought it was the in thing to have. The 3 BGE ones work well with no problems and the 200-1000 tele true works well also. Mine are not in the weather though.

I thought this thread was about determining the "heat of the meat" using the most efficient/accurate instrumention available. Lots of "data" to look through, I'm sure the answer is here.

In the end, any thermometer can be accurate, it's a matter of which ones are reliably so. Some swear by the BGE original equipment units, others by the Tel-Tru. My personal experience has been that the Tel-Trus do the job more accurately and reliably.
If you want a temperature instrument that is even more accurate, you can get an AccuRite electronic at Walmart for about $13 and use it in the same probe hole as your bimetal thermometer. Be warned that they are only good up to 392*F, though, and they will be harder to read from a distance than the dial-type units. You'll also have to keep the base unit dry at all times.
If you're hardcore on getting accurate temperatures, you can get an RTD with an industrial display that will be accurate to within less than 1*F, but I doubt that sort of accuracy is needed. -
My previous post re "the heat of the meat" was a bit in jest, I enjoyed the discussion. I agree that the tel-tru is probably the way to go and will be ordering one this week, most likely the 5", as my BGE thermometer has had some calibration issues lately. Appreciate the come back.

I had a problem Sunday with my BGE therm touching the meat when I used my bge 3 tier. I woould have a big problem if I had bought the Tru Tel 5 inch and it stuck far into the dome
