Time to cook prime rib

Is there any rule about how long it should take to cook prime rib? I have checked the recipe section but it appears the time varies from 20-30 minutes to 2-3 hours. Hosting a dinner party for 3-4 people and want to make a good guess when I should start cooking. Any hints on what the internal temperature should be would be appreciated as well.
I do plan on trying to cook a test one early, just for practice
Thanks

Look at the following two videos. I did what they said and it came out perfect.

I sear the roast at 650 plus turn a couple times with LONG tongs and elbow length raw hide gloves, then shut down the vents and let it settle to 325.
Cook it to internal 120 ( RARE ). Time about 10 to 12 minutes per pound. Times vary.
Remove it from egg and rest for 15 minutes.
Total time must allow rest timeBilly

This is the way I cooked my last one and it came out great. Took about 2 hours for a 5 lb rib roast.
