Salmon and Asparagus on the bge - lots of pics

After reading a few posts on maple glazed salmon I decided to give it a try - awesome. I just rec'd my first order of DP products and used Tsunami Spin as I didn't order Raging River. The salmon was great but even better was the report that the kids were fighting over who got more asparagus while I was getting the salmon off the egg. The slightly crisped ends of the asparagus really were excellent.
The prep/cook:
Dusted the salmon with DP Tsunami Spin. Rafted the asparagus and drizzled EVOO and salt and pepper. BGE sitting at 300*. The salmon wasn't all that thick so about 5-7 minutes per side - same for asparagus (we don't like it mushy).

Salmon and asparagus prepped (keeping the skin for the dog)

  • great meal and looks like an very enthusiatic young lady is enjoying it ;)
  • Maple salmon and grilled asparagus. We had that same meal probably a dozen times this summer. Pick up some Raging River next time, it really makes the maple salmon. We love Tsunami Spin, too...but there's something about Raging River and maple...

    Looking good, Matt.

Nice job on the salmnon!! Tsunami Spin is great but you HAVE to try it with the Raging River. It puts salmon over the top. If you have any of the maple butter left get some pineapple and sprinkle some Dizzy Pig Pineapple head on it and then get some nice grill marks on it and brush with the leftover maple butter and grill. Oh yeah, and put a scoop of Haagen Dazs Vanilla Ice cream on it and drizzle with a little of the warm maple butter. OMG!! It's sooooooooooo good!!
  • That sounds too good to pass up. Might just make take the meal from a solid 9 to a 10. I've bookmarked this one in my BGE section of my favorites.
    thanks

    Very nice indeed.
When do you appply the Maple Butter? And I assume its pure maple syrup & butter?
I wish I could get my young daughter to eat asparagus....(love the rafts btw)

Thanks for sharing the pics. :)
  • I applied the maple/butter glaze when I flipped the salmon for the first time - following the recipe on the dizzypig site. Then flipped them back over for a couple minutes and applied again.
Yes, pure maple syrup and a pat of butter. I joke that I could eat grass if it had maple syrup on it.
The rafts worked great - saw a post on those here and gave it a try.
We're lucky that the kids eat well - asparagus included.
  • Ron,

It looks like he was following the recipe on the Dizzy Pig website. Baste with the syrup/butter comb. We have done it several times and it is an AWESOME recipe !
