Firebricks in Chicago?

edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
Just got myself a large BGE and am in the process of getting it set up. It didn't come with a pate setter and I'm one cheap sonuvabitch. So I was thinking I'd pick up a few firebricks to use for indirect cooking and to elevate the pizza stone I already have.

I saw on the Naked Whiz that you can buy firebricks from Ace, but if you get them from a brickyard for a fraction of that price.

Anybody know of any place to buy fire bricks in Chicago besides ACE?? Or anyone have a good idea how to find a local brickyard? Unfortunately there's a mall named 'Brickyard" which is making Google searches a little challenging.

Thanks, looking forward to firing this bad boy up for the first time!

There is a place called Mcmaster Carr up there. We order all kinds of stuff from them thru mail. I don't know if they have a store front or not. Try Mcmastercarr.com

Went to Menards on Oakton and asked the folks there. The employees there had no freaking idea what I was talking about, but after browsing the aisles for about 10 minutes, I managed to find 6 firebrick bundles for 9 bucks. They were hidden in the fireplace aisle by the tools and starters.

    Perfect!
