Smoked my gasket again

I have smoked the gasket on my small egg again. The first time was after about 6 lower temp cooks. I seared steaks . . . maybe too soon. I fixed that with a new felt gasket and 3m super 77 spray tac. I have probably done 20-30 cooks, but not over 400 degrees. This weekend I cooked cornish hens at about 350 for 1.5 hours. After they were done, I cranked it up to burn off the grease. The egg got to about 550 degrees in about 20 minutes. I opened the lib, the gasket stuck together and melted again. Any suggestions? I am thinking about trying nomex. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have to problem with the gasket on my large.
Thanks
Eric

Time to stop thinking about it and get the Nomex.
-
Just be sure to shrink it in the dryer first.

Get the Nomex and you will be happy. My large has held 750 degrees for an hour and the Nomex held fine. It did smoke a little but I think that was the grease drippings on the gasket. I am still using that same gasket today.

Eric,
I had same problems using the felt gaskets - could be the felt gasket adhesive vs the 3m super 77. Once I used a nomex gasket with the super 77 my issue went away (knock on wood).
Good luck, -
Yes.. What Rich said. High heat for 15 to 20 minutes in the drier. My gasket shrank 1.25" in the drier. After pre shrinking install it on the Egg. Problems solved.

Nomex, 3M Super 77 adhesive, and throw the gasket in the dryer.
-
Or you can just forget using a gasket all together as they don't seem to make any real difference...

As an altenate solution:
Rutland gasket using 3M super 77 instead of the suppied goo.
I originally used the goo, but it dried out, cracked, and "fell off".
I ended up peeling the dried up goo and using 77 - haven't looked back - many sears at 700+ dome w/o a ploblem.South SLO County -
Where would one find the nomex gaskets? Are any nomex gaskets ok?

get the nomex at any good Egg Dealer

Go for it man... Rutland specifically says not to use their gasket on the egg.

Many people use the Rutland and love it, many don't care what is said about Rutland and many think it just doesn't make any difference one way or the other.
