Degreasing DFMT?

I've had my DFMT for 5 years now and frequently find myself having to use a rock or hammer in order to allow adjustment to the daisy wheel/slider prior to a cook (I do this while not attached to my egg of course). Once I've gotten the slider to open/close and the daisy to spin, it's fine during the cook (no problem making adjustments), but then once the cook is done and I let the DFMT cool, a built up layer of grease congeals everything together again and the process repeats. Anyone ever degrease their DFMT to fix this problem? If so, what do you use? Do you ever lubricate the DFMT to prevent this from happening?
