I have had my egg for about a year now and just noticed how gunked up my dome thermometer has gotten I was just wondering whats the best way to clean it and could i be getting inaccurate readings from it being that dirty?

I generally run the probe under hot water and use a soapy acour pad. This does a good job.

I have done the boiling water test with it all gunked up and did not notice any false reading. If anything it may be a little slow to get to the right temp with gook on it, but I don't see it giving a false reading.

There will be more misreadings from non calibration rather than smoke/dirt build up.
Use Crimsongator's suggestion or something on that line.
