I here that have made some recent changes to the XL. Just wondering if anyone has purchased one yet and if so how is it in comparison to the older version

What changes are you talking about. The fire ring was redesigned to hold a deeper platesetter. Anything else?

Performance should be the same. The fire box is a little shorter, The fire ring was re designed to accommodate the plate setter better and the new plate setter has longer legs. You will have more versatility on drip pans between the plate setter and the grid.

The hinge is different compared to the "old" XL, too.
-fire ring
-fire box
-hinge
-handle (longer)
-cast iron grate (smaller holes)
-plate setter (longer legs)
I think that covered it... -
Mike, Those hinges and handle have been around a little while, (at least a year). I have an older model that came with the new style hinges and the larger handle.
