3rd Overall in 1st Competition

Just finished our 1st ever competition. It was in Boulder City Nevada, and put on by KCBS. Finished 2nd in chicken, 2nd in brisket,4th in pork, 9th in ribs and 1st in Anything But. That was good enough for 3rd overall. Only 3 points from being reserve champion & 7 from winning it all. I'm so proud of our team. We practiced long and hard, and all the hard work payed off. Thanks to team members Jim, Ron, Dave, Skip and Birdman. Also a really big thanks to Hatch for being our mentor and guiding us in the right direction. Thanks to Chris from Dizzy Pig for his help too. Those rubs just seem to work. We also sold some BGE's and accessories ( we are BGE Dealers), so all in all it was a great weekend. Thanks again to all involved and especially to the wives for putting up with us.

It is amazing to me that someone takes on a product and does nothing to help sell it. I know sometimes people say that big green egg needs to educate their dealers but I feel it is up to the dealer to know its products. If you make the investment in a business make the investment of time to know it. It seems like such a simple thing to me...

We try to know whats going on in the egg world. We have more accessories than any dealer around our area. We also have at least one egg of all sizes. We're not a big store, but we really work with our customers. We even deliver and we build the eggs for the customers.

Woohoo!!! It made my day to get the message from Kenny on how yall did. I'm really happy for you guys, and at the same time I am sorry to realize that you all have caught the bug in a big way. Now...what's next?? hehe.

We're not sure about the next competition, but I'm sure ones in the future. Kenny really gave us some good pointers, but he let us use what we had been practicing with. He was a great help. I guess all schools and practice paid off. By the way the name of our team is
SMOKIN' GOATHEADS I think we were all in shock when they announced our names. Beginners luck maybe? -

Kenny the Coach. Yea, it was sure nice having him out here. We used our own receipes and such, but he was there to tell us what NOT to do instead of so much what to do. The SMOKING GOATHEADS were pretty happy.

Stupid me doesn't know how to post pictures, but maybe I can get Aline to post some for me. We're looking on the KCBS site for something in the future, not to far away from home. You don't know how much the Goatheads thank you and Kenny for all the times you've been out here for the classes. You guys are the best. I wish you could have come out too, but I understand about the business, kids, wives, etc.

Congratulations again Mike and all the Goatheads involved this weekend Dave, Ron, Jim, Skip, Ron W. and of course all your better halves that came out and helped.
I had an absolute blast hanging out with you all. You can't ask for an easier bunch to coach. You all had a plan and executed it to near perfection. Still trying to get my head around how 4 top tens didn't win the whole thing. But at least it leaves you with room to improve.
