Help on Table

I am going to start building a table to my new egg but am not experienced at woodworking. What is the best method to cut the hole for the egg to sit down in? I thought about a router but didnt know if that would work. Thanks

I use a jigsaw, then smooth it with a router roundover bit then sand it smooth.

Also any advise I would appreciate it. I am thinking about putting tile on the top for a nice surface but didnt know if that was hard to do. Thanks everyone

Draw your circle on the top.

Use a jigsaw and cut the circle out by cutting just inside the line. You will be left with a somewhat rough cut.

Now sand to the line. This allows you to "sneak up" on the line and get a nice looking circle.

You can then either round over the edges with sandpaper or use a router with a round over bit.

I'd go with the jigsaw also. They make following a curve easy. If your jigsaw has the ability to adjust the blade angle, set it for straight up. This slows down the cut, but gives a much cleaner cut than a more aggressive angle. Just take it slowly and let the saw do the work.

To make the circle I used one of those 5 gallon paint stirrer sticks. I drilled 2 small holes in it at a distance of half of how big I wanted the hole to be. Then at the spot I wanted the center of the hole to be I put a nail through the hole and nailed it into the table and put a pencil in the other hole and drew the circle.

That works great!

I just use a string to draw the radius. I put a screw in the center, then tie a pencil at 10.5" and draw a circle.

Your idea sounds better and more stable.

i'm terrible at woodworking myself and built a table last year. the way it was described to me and worked well is to lay some plank down as if you we not going to have a hole. then find your center point, put a nail there and tie a string to it, a pencil to the other end and draw your circle. use a jigsaw to cut out the hole. i would also make sure you get a countersink for the screws you use on the table as i learned the hard way when i split several planks trying to get the screws drilled all the way down.

I used a jigsaw too, I took it as an opportunity to use some of my nice old, obsolete, drafting tools to draw the circle.

I used the dome for the template. Just pencil under the gasket as far as you can. It gave me about 3/8-1/2 inch clearance all around the Egg.
