Been thinking of getting a small Dehydrator just for fun.
Can any of you fill me in on what might be the best bet for a tenderfoot?
$$ aren't a big objection but I don't need the biggest one out there.
I've been on Bass Pro Shop and Cabelas sites looking at them but still have no idea which direction I should go in.
Thanks.

If you are just doing jerky you may want to just get an adjustable rig from http://www.eggaccessories.com/ but if you are going to also do fruit just get one on those Ronco types. 35 bucks or so. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5141321&sourceid=1500000000000003260370&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=5141321SEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! I have used the Nesco American Harvest FD-1010 for years making jerky mostly. I works very well and has been durable. I think Cabelas sells them. The design has changed somewhat, but the new ones should be good quality also. Mark
Edit: It is called the Gardenmaster model. -
I have had a couple low end dehydrators. My current one is an "open country" purchased at Bass Pro. They sell something similar at Bed Bath and Beyond. They are very simple machines and achive the goal of dehydration quite well.
I use mine to "finish" jerky if necessary after taking it off my egg. Before I had my egg, I used my dehydrator
to do jerky from start to finish, with good results.
The bottom line on deydrators is they blow warm air around the food @ 130-155 degrees til dry. You can get a quite similar effect with a BBQ Guru in your egg. The biggest exception is the egg doesnt dry nearly as quickly as a dehydrator. That's why I finish some jerky in my dehydrator.
From reading your question, it looks like you'd have fun with a basic model. Scott -
That model from Wally World looks interesting. Thanks.

I have the Nesco American Harvest with 8 treys we bought about 7 years ago and it works good.

Just make sure the one you get has the fan. Just gave away a fanless cheapie, rotating the racks often was a pain in the butt.

I have one of those. They work well.

for $35, ya can't go wrong. I have had mine maybe 10 years. If it breaks, I'll buy another one.SEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP
