New Fire Box and Nomax Gasket. I guess I Seared to many Rib Eyes and Flatiron Steaks, the good news is the Mother Ship sent me a new one for just shipping cost, I bought the gasket. I have had three Felt Gasket one Rutland which didn't burn up, the Rutland cement did not hold.
Now I'm back to Egging.

Welcome back to cooking Ross.
I never tried the rutland cement. I used 600* RTV silicone on day one. Never had to look back. -
i vote that you take out the new firebox and stow it on a shelf until that older one is in seven pieces or more.
i know i probably don't get a vote anyway, but just sayin.
i don't think there's a dude here that doesn't have a new one on a shelf and the original one still in place. heck, you are gettin more air with the cracks.

I've had this one for six mo. You can't see all the cracks, I had to do the gasket win I took it out It was not worth keeping so now I have a new one to crack.

I'm with Stike,my medium firebox makes yours look like new And it's still holding up just fine  I don't have a new one yet,but no hurry, since I can get it replaced by my local dealer if needed :woohoo:

did you use it to glue the nomex?
if so do you think you could hook me up when i go down for the fest? cause i have been holding off the nomex due to the adhesive issue!! -
I used the silicone for a rutland gasket, not nomex, but in principal it is the same.
If you want a tube I'll get you one, the cost is under $5. -
Mike,
I used the 3M Supper 77, you should be able to get at the fest.

Rod,
Thank you for the offer, I got it down for now, but maybe in the future. Lets see how this works.
My Best,
Ross -
so it would work great for the nomex then? is a tube enough to do more then 1 egg?
and on that part i would love to get a tube or 2 -
and fly back with that in his luggage, let alone carry on? Don't think so!!!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

that is what i thought but i should be able with the other stuff if it is in a tube right??

i have one of the unbreakable ones they were testing a while back. it's got three cracks!
heh heh heh
what do io care? they were good enough to have me try it, and heck, if it cracked, then it helps them ultimately because now they know that version wasn't truly "unbreakable". no harm no foul.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -

Thank You,

Ross,
My original felt is still functioning but certainly nearing the end. I'm leaning toward Nomex but have been put off by adhesive issues. Doesn't the Nomex kit come with the adhesive strip already on the gasket? I'm concerned that even with the 3M adhesive on the rim the Nomex adhesive could still fail and separate. Or does the 3M somehow soak through and bond to the gasket? -
Stanley,
I do not know if it soaks in, on the package the Nomax came in the instruction said you could use a spray cement as well.
Ross -
Ross,
I had wondered about spraying 3M on the adhesive membrane myself. I was told what you stated above.
I think you will give the new gasket/adhesive a good work out with the amount of searing you do.
