Setting Egg on Firebricks (With Pics!)

Last night after reading the page about table fires and exploding tiles (http://www.nakedwhiz.com/eggbase/eggbase.htm) I decided that I wanted to build my table so that my BGE would rest on firebrick. My other wants are: 1. Plenty of air circulation beneath the egg 2. to keep the cart's weight down for moveability 3. To have the ashes that fall out of the draft door fall on the firebrick and of course 4. a secure place for my egg to reside on.
I have already constructed the cart's frame. Does anyone see a problem with the way I have laid the firebrick out leaving the empty space between the two rows of brick? The brick is secure from the supports underneath and I will be able to secure the bricks from their short ends (so they can't fall off the table) when I add the front and back pieces of the lower shelf.
I live in a high danger fire area so I take all the precautions I can!
Thanks for your help!

It looks like you may be able to put in 2 more bricks and fill that gap. Give it a try.

Yes I could, but I was leaving them out so that the cart would be easier to move and there would be better air circulation. The egg would be on its three feet which would all be on the bricks
-
That will work. just keep a gap (your covered with the feet) between the firebrick and egg. 6 or 7 years and never thought I had a problem until I pulled the Egg to refinish the table. This was with the Egg sitting directly on the brick.
After ( The feet will stay now) That piece of stainless under the stone protects the table when cleaning the ash.

The design looks good. A few ideas:
The large gap in the middle is great for air circulation however it will expose whatever is on the bottom shelf to very high heat. I wouldn't store anything plastic or flammable under there.
The supports under the firebrick should be widened and/or use a third support in the middle of the firebrick. Otherwise the full weight of the egg and contents will be focused on the unsupported centers of the firebrick, which could lead to the firebricks splitting in half if you move the egg or place any weight or pressure on it.
Only other thought is that the large gap will allow ash (and possibly hot coals) to fall down to the bottom shelf when you clean out the egg. If you use feet on top of the firebrick then you shouldn't need an air gap between firebricks. Just keep the air circulating under and on top of the firebricks and it should be ok.
Good luck! Show us how it turns out. -
I think you're over reacting.. but for where you are I agree with what WileE said.
I don't know what to tell you about where to go from here, and it would only be one man's opinion if I did.
Good luck and I hope it all turns out well!
