Never thought it would happen to me but after cooking steaks and chops tonight I decided to do a clean-out burn. Well you guessed it...I can't open her up. Temp is still reading 300.
Should I wait till AM after it completely cools to open and if it doesn't, what then. Stupid me would always breeze through advice on this w/o paying attention. Mr. arrogant has learned a lesson!
Thanks in advance for your help on this.

No, first try to heat it back up again and as the temp increases lightly lift the dome. Don't tug hard and hopefully you will be able to open the dome without pulling a gasket up.
You might want to get a something narrow, like a putty knife, to work between the gasket material.

As Grandpas Grub said get it back up to 400 or so and try to open it gently. The gasket might pull up some or pull off. Either way it's fairly easy to replace.
FYI I had my egg up to 850 tonight. Not on purpose mind you. I quickly shut it down and very very very carefully opened it up. Whew!! Gasket was OK. -
Luckily I was able to shoot a MAPP flame under the fire box from the bottom and relight the lump. Once it got to 400 I used the putty knife and after finding a place where it wasn't stuck I slid it around the ring and it opened. Luckily no damage to the gasket.

Well, I don't understand. I just happen to do the same on my large tonight. Ran her up to 650+ and let her rip, that was 5 hours ago. Since I read your post, I went out and checked, running about 200 now and I opened the lid just fine.

Go buy a lottery ticket quick!!

Do the lids get stuck closed because of the gasket adhesive?

If you get a lot of gunk built up in the gaskets, then get them hot enough to melt that gunk, you can end up with the top 'welded' to the bottom.

Good job Dawg.
