Well,as some of you know,my father suffered a head injury on June 24th.I found out about it June 25th.I left for NJ on June 26th(my birthday)to see him.He has been sent to a rehab facility after a month in ICU.Now the trach tube is gone,so he can speak, but doesn't have much to say :( He doesn't remember anybody. The funny thing was when he saw a pretty nurse,he asked my cousin for dollar bills Maybe there is still hope.He is starting his second week of rehab, but we have no idea if he will ever regain his memory :( I'm not trying to bum anyone out, enjoy your weekend Just please keep him in your thoughs and prayers thanks,

Don't' despair, modern science can do amazing things. Sometimes the recovery takes awhile but I have seen amazing results. You and your father will be in my prayers.

Seems like we need to send him some dollar bills. Doug, the human body and mind is such a miracle. I think in time things will return to normal. He suffered so much trauma and has come through great so far. I wish the time frame was faster for you and your family's sake. I'm praying for the best possible outcome for him. I'm always here if you need to talk or anything else. Blessings on you on your family! Thanks for updating us on his condition!

Thanks BigUn.My family has raised over $11,000 to pay for the attorney and to cover his rent for awhile.Right now, only my brother and I can access his bank account, but it is hard for my cousins(who live close to him)to pay his rent and stuff.I am waiting for paperwork to sign to help my cousins out.I just spent $900 that I didn't have to make the trip to NJ.I really just want to keep his apartment. We are now looking for in-home care for him once he is released from the rehab facility.I am too far away to help, but am trying my best BTW,if you send him dollar bills,he's gonna get in trouble

Thanks Steve.I am very sorry for your loss, really.I just can't do anything but think about it.I talk to the doctors and my family, but I can't be there.I just hope that he regains his memory.I know he has many more years left, but what's the point if you don't remember your own son,or brother, sister, cousin? This is not what retirement is about. This guy worked his a$$ off,and this is what he gets
Thanks Frank, and Pam.We need all the help we can get.You guys are awesome.I appriciate everyone taking the time from their families to wish mine good luck.I love this forum -
Doug,
You can't feel guilt, you can do what you can do. We all pray for his memory to come back but life is sometimes very unfair. It sucks but that is what we get sometimes.

I lost my dad three years ago, and it still seems like yesterday. I'll keep your dad in my prayers, Doug.

Like others have said, your father, you, and your family will be in my prayers. Five years ago, my dad (at 80) had a stroke after open heart surgery. There were lots of deficits, but over time they lessened, he improved. I heard from many health care professionals that this type of damage will continue to improve for up to a year or more. Don't know if that was comfort talk or not, but it was true. He was in rehab for several months (inpatient and outpatient) and I saw and experienced his improvement. I know it's hard to adjust, keep in mind there's more improvement to be seen.

Like I said earlier, the human mind and spirit is beyond comprehension. He's been making great strides from what you're relaying to us. The fact that he is asking for dollar bills for good looking nurses sounds like a great sign, especially when you figure all of the logic behind managing currancy and good looking nurses. It may well be that he is rebuilding from a place that holds fond memeories. He must be tired from his ordeal, and the fact that he is trying to have fun shows that he's still fighting to make things positive. Let's all keep positive thoughts in his direction and let God do His work. Again, I'm here for you if you need me.
