I've been unsuccessful trying to find my favorite lump lighter method called the Char-Broil Sure-2-Burn. I've been all over the internet and it appears they have stripped that name and the Sure-2-Burn refers to a metal tray and chips. The only mention was a fine in CA that the packets were illegal out there. Any leads would be appreciated...

I got these (with a different brand name, but obviously the same) from my BGE dealer. They said this is what the Mothership is sending them in place of the BGE (pressed sawdust) starters. I was a little reluctant at first - lighting a little plastic packet and all - but they work really well and I had no odors.

BTW, I think the white stuff in these is the same white stuff in the Weber starters I have been using since I ran out of the packets. Also work well, but slightly less convenient.

Why not use a weed burner.. It's easier, and it gets your coals started faster?

I bought some that look like them at Kroger. They are made by Landmann USA. landmann.com

Someone posted a few weeks ago about a small cube starter you can order online from ace hardware and have it delivered to your local store. Might not be the same thing though. Here is the link.

Thanks! It appears that Landmann USA probably made them of Char-Broil. I've used many starters, but for ease and the fact they are water proof I like them the best. They sure beat lugging a flame thrower around don't they!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Those Webers are my second choice. Trouble with them as they are sort of messy when you pop the foil - whereas these sealed packets are neat and waterproof and work like a charm. Off to Kroger in the morning!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I'm trying the rubbing achohol method tonite. Bought some 91% rubbing at Walmart & a plastic sqeeze eye dropper. Sounds interesting. We shall see.

Amen to that!

I saw something that looked like them at Lowes this weekend, wasn't sure if I wanted to light some unknown pack in my egg, but maybe I'll give them a try.

I bought three boxes just like that at $1.99 each at Princess Auto about 3 months ago in Ottawa. That store undoubtedly has a decent delivery service. Call them.

Home Depot has them
