Hi all,
I'm a brand new Big Green Egg owner as of 2 hours ago! A few weeks ago I was at a yard sale and they had a small BGE cyprus table. No Egg, just the table...I knew that this had to be a sign. People were asking why the table had a hole and I was the only person who knew the reason. Surely I was being directed to make the purchase I had been thinking about for some time and so I did it. Just put it together tonight and I am raring to get cooking.
Two questions...I noticed that I need a stone to go under the Egg to seperate it from the wood. Will a thick garden stone work or do I need something specific for this? Also, I have been thinking about using the BGE as one of our cookers or competition. Are they difficult to transport? I have a large trailer with a good spring axles, but not sure what would be needed for packing. Thanks much for any help. I'm looking forward to great advice here!

Congratulations on your new egg.
You can use whatever stone you want under the egg. It just needs to no be touching the wood. You could even use the Green feet that come with the egg. ALthough I kept them separate for my dutch oven and pizza setup -
Thanks Bama! I'll head to the garden shop in the AM. I just found the DVD in the envelope, so I'll probably watch that before I ask too many more questions. Although, it seems downright unmanly to use directions!

You are in good company here. Many nice people with a wealth of information. I am newer here as well. Whenever I have a question I use the search box and usually get more returns than I can read.

Make sure you visit and read The Naked Whiz website. There is all kinds of helpful and very important information.

If the egg came with three ceramic 'feet' I recommend putting them under the egg and then on a stone.
Putting the egg directly on a stone (even a thick one) can result in charring the wood under the stone.
