What a night. Just when I thought I had everthing going good. The skies opened up and the bottom fell out. Wish I had made an unbrella stand for my cart. I think the heavy rains messed up the temp in the dome. I was clicking along with the Maverick reading 226-229. When the bottom fell out the grill temp dropped fast to 221 and started dropping to 215 before I went out and opened the bottom vent some more. Fought the temp and rain the rest of the night. Maverick alarm kept going off during the night because the grill temp would either drop or get to high. The meat seemed to level off at 157 and stayed there for several hours. Put an earlier post yesterday of Part I.
Here is Part II
Smaller 5 lb pulled at 10:30am
Internal temp check with the Thermapen(meat probe was in the other butt)
First butt pulled after an hour rest in the foil and towels.
Second butt was pulled at 12 noon after it came up to 195 grill temp 271. Sorry forgot to take pic of it before it went in the foil, towels and cooler.
Second butt pulled.
23 hrs. 15 minutes of supper low and slow.
Still had a good bit of lump left. Santa if I'm a good boy can I gave a Guru? :P Baby sitting is for young folks!
The butt rubbed with the Rendevous was best but both were better than any I had ever done on the electric Brinksman. Heavy bark that everyone was fighting over. Will watch the weather next time and have the unbrella at the ready!
Thanks everyone for their help yesterday.

You the MAN!! Persevered threw advarsity and came out on top! :woohoo: You need a shed over that thing. My "Smoke Shack and Lounge" cost less than 150 bucks doing it my self minus the sink and cook counter. I wouldn't want to leave "Q" in that kind of rain. Congrats! You done good!!!!!

Congrats, that some nice lookin butt. -RP

That was the plateau where around 157 for several hours. A brisket will do the same. All the energy is breaking down the fat inside at that point.

Feel like I had an all nighter at the fire station last night. Will be going to bed early tonite for sure. Definetly need a cook shack but haven't made up my mind where to place it yet. We had one heck of a gully washer down here in LA last night. Just hope some of the rain made it to N. Georgia they be hurting.

Nice lookig cook, congratulations.

Thanks for that. We got about 1.5" here NE of Atlanta. It rained pretty good for about 10 hours straight. You're right, we sure need it.
Butt looks yummy too. Congrats - they are addictive! -
I have seen a few people have galvanized rain caps that they bought at Lowes or HD. i have been looking but haven't seen one yet. Glad you were able to beat the weather. The pulled pork looks great!

Looks like a good cook. Glad you are happy with the results. Sometimes the ones that give you the most problems, taste the best.

From the looks of the pulled pork, it was pretty good. Were you happy with it, 'Bama?

Got a rain cap for the top yesterday in anticipation of rain. Found it at Home Depot in the roofing section.
Just didn't anticipate the amount of rain. I think the heavy rain, I mean frog strangler, cooled off the BGE and the grill temp started dropping fast. Probably should have trusted the egg but it was my first low and slow. Proud that the dome was not lifted once in the nearly 24 hr. cook. Put about a quart of watered down apple juice in the drip pan. The pan had a heavy black crust in the bottom which may have contributed to the dark bark on the butts. The bark was a little dry but was the best part. The mixture of mustard, rubs and torinado(SP) sugar made a great taste. -
Glad to hear it, Fidel. I've got a lot of family in North Georgia that's been spacing their showers and flushes.

Way to go Bama!..good lookin PP...way to hang in there!..what part of LA are you in? I have a mother in law in Opelika...

When you put this on it looks as if the daisy is off? Or am I envisioning that wrong?
If you take the daisy off how do you regulate?
I've had to come up with some creative foil solutions which worked OK for the spring rain, but it would have folded in a true downpour.
Thanks -
Cap fits over the daisy wheel.
-
yea make sure you measure your daisy before you run off to the store
happy eggin

Can I say this? You got a nice looking butt. I'm going to try a butt soon.

Got it - open daisy wheel to about 350, measure, and off to store.
They say ACE is the place with the helpful hardware man - they've never read this fourm.
Thanks!
