Cooking without gasket?

It finally happened. I went out last night to place the Greek pizza in the BGE and the lid was welded shut. Unfortunately, the Rutland replacement gasket kit is not available locally so I had to order it online. I have cleaned the old gasket off the top and bottom following the directions provided by www.nakedwhiz.com. Will it harm my Egg if I cook on it without a gasket installed? I'm talking short time grilling of steaks, burgers, and chicken. I'm not going to be smoking anything on it until I have a proper seal.[p]I have family in town for the week and my replacement gasket won't come for at least that long.[p]
