Bulk Spices For Homemade Rubs?? Help!

Hi All,[p]For those who make their own rubs--- i.e., DP --can you please advise as to reliable sources for bulk raw make-ups? Not looking for completed retail rubs but rather bulk ingredients to make various homemade rubs. I am especially having a difficult time figuring out how to incorporate flavors like apple into a rub. I see liquid extracts like cherry, apple and others but how does one incorporate that liquid into a rub? Also, any education Web sites would be helpful as well. Is there a Rub making 101 class out there?[p]Thanks in advance.

As far as the bulk spices go Penzey's is a great place to get them from. I have been using them for along time and they usually send a free sample jar of one of their spices with your order (a nice surprise). A good book on the subject is Steven Raichlen's Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades, he has some good recipes that can be adjusted to suit your taste.
