Assembly Problem?

When cooking, smoke (lots of it) comes out the gasket at the back of the Egg at the lid locking assembly. Is this normal, or does it need to be adjusted? I'm a new owner and am having some great results, but this seems to defeat the purpose of retaining moisture. Thanks for any help!

    Muskiedo,[p]Easy to check. Take a standard business card, open the dome and place the card about half way out in the back by the hinge. Close lid. If the card pulls out easily then you need to make adjustments. If there's a slight "tug" back then it's tight.[p]Kelly Keefe

    Some leakage is no big deal. The retention of moisture in foods is more because of the way the ceramic cooks than because of any airtight seal. If your seal leaks so much that you can't hold your temperature around 200, then it is something that needs to be addressed. You can (a) reset the lid, which may need some adjustment or (b) thicken your gasket by using a stove gasket. If you are leaking enough to interfere with holding a low temperature, you should need to reset the lid. If you are simply unhappy with the fact that it leaks, replace the gasket with a stove gasket and it will stop.

    Good tips already. Sounds like it needs adjusting. Loosen the nuts on the top band, and let the lid settle down in the back, then retighten. Retighten again after a week or two. You might want some spare bolts on hand, as they sometimes break when loosening.[p]Good luck!

    It does look like you have a sealing problem with the lid
    First thing i would do before you touch anything, is to buy some replacement nuts & bolts as they usualy break when you try to remove the old ones. Once you have replacements, loosen the lid & push down hard on the rear of the lid then retighten bolts. If this does not work, repeat steps but this time, place a small wedge in the front part of the lid & then push down on the rear. Hope this works, if not, then yes you need a gasket.[p]Earl
