Plate Setter

I recently purchased and used to cook my turkey. I used it with the supports up where I placed my grid. I put my drip pan underneath and it worked well. My question is what are some other good uses of the setter. There were no instructions or suggestions in the box. Thanks

Don,[p]Do you or anyone else have a picture of a plate setter? I know that's a funny question, but my wife and I just bought a large egg yesterday, (we haven't even cooked on it yet) and we're still trying to round up all the things that we need for "indirect" cooking. We thought that, for instance, when we cook a turkey, by using a vertical roaster, and a drip pan, the drip pan itself would kinda deflect the heat. But since I've been to this website, I've been reading a lot about plate setters. Can someone please tell me the purpose of using a plate setter, and if possible, what is a good one to use, and where to get one?

With grill in normal position, set the plate setter, feet down, add a pizza stone and it makes excellent pizza.
Use the plate setter anytime you don't want direct heat/fire on what you are cooking.

I use mine for butts, jerky and brisket with the legs up and pizza, calzones and quessadias with the legs down (with a pizza stone added). It is a great accessory for the BGE. Have a great day.[p]Chuck <><

Shelby,[p]I guess I am a little slow, but I don't have the picture! Do you put the plate setter on top of the (grill) grate and then the pizza stone on top or do you remove the grate? I can see the legs-up approach to hold up the grate, but not your technique. I have asked for a plate setter for Christmas, so I better understand before then.[p]Thanks for your input.[p]Buckeye Bill

Didn't read any previous posts, but what I do with the plate setter is: remove the fire ring and then set the plate setter on top of the firebox either side up, all depending on what you need to cook. Upside down (inverted) allows you to drop a drip pan in between the legs, and you can then balance the cooking grid right over. Lots of other variations that are only limited by your imagination and ingenuity! Big Murth
