garwig,[p] Scroll down to the other threads and you will see your answer.[p] However, I would recommend the Lodge 5qt It you want enameled then you can look at Le Creuset or Lodge.[p] 5gt is a good place to start however I regularly use the 9gt on my large and XL's However, they feed a bunch of people.

DynaGreaseball,
Thanks so much. You are a big help. Just ordered one. Have you tried anything that you would recommend by using yours?[p]

garwig,[p]what everyone else says makes sense.
I would add that whatever fits in your egg will work;
what you're looking for is a sacraficial closed pot (i.e. dutch oven you can lose to the egg, 'cause it's hard on pots!), and the size doesn't matter if it fits in your egg.
You want one that will do the roasts/whatever you're trying to cook, and/or the group you're cooking for, and still fits in the egg.
I have $20 non-stick dutch ovens that work just great in the large, and who cares if in a year the handles burn off!
best, HS

DynaGreaseball,
Does anyone know the right quart size dutch oven for a Small Egg? Thanks

garwig,[p]i use the enameled lodge cookware - nice, easy to use handles and same for lid - good seal if you need it - plus can be used from egg to table - easy clean up - [p]rdeal

garwig,[p]Actually I haven't. The picture I posted was sent to me by my brother (Farlsworth) when I was asking some of the same questions. I didn't want to get one that was too big or too small, so he showed me how it looked sitting on his medium egg. He cooked those calico beans on his, but he left the top of the dutch oven on, and didn't think about smoking, so we still don't know how much smoke taste we can achieve. Glad the pic helped. Guess I'll try the beans myself soon.

garwig,[p]By the way, when you receive your Lodge, you'll get a little paper inside the box which tells the history of the Lodge Co. Pretty cool folks. They've been casting these things for years, and they're plenty proud of their work. I have an expensive Le Creuset that's enameled, but I'm just not comfortable subjecting it to the egg. The Lodge is tough but it's a quality casting, and the spring handle works great when you use your ash tool to remove it from the hot egg. (I should be a salesman--NOT) Enjoy it when you receive it, and let us know what you cook in it.

I think this thing is pretty cool.[p]http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Bar-B-Q-Cast-Iron-Wok/dp/B0001QIUGO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-2223038-1590051?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1190463449&sr=8-1[p]Amazon.com has a bunch of dutch ovens too[p]http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hg/104-5449166-8981562?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias=garden&field-keywords=dutch+oven

dover_gal,
I use a 5 quart in my small. Mine is a old Wagner. Just make sure that it doesn't have handles that will gt in the way. Cheryl

HolySmokes,[p]I have learned that handles are on the things that are good to have list.[p]Kent

garwig,[p]Lodge is a great company and do a good job with their products. However, cast iron is cast iron. [p]Companies that have poor methods & poor molds will have manual grinding on their products. You will see grind marks.[p]The Thermos removable handle skillets from Target/Wal Mart have the grind marks quite often. That is just cosmetic but an indication of a poor quality build process.[p]When buying a dutch oven, new or used at a yard sale. Put the lid on the oven and look for an 'even' fit of the lid to oven. Rotate the lid and make sure the fit is still good all around.[p]If the lid is a good fit, the oven is a good oven. The lid fitting will differ in any brand one buys. Take the time and pick out an oven with the best fit you can find.[p]Kent
