Posting Pictures

Well, I give up! ... I almost offered to help Char-Woody figure out how to post pictures, and now I can not figure it out! I ftp'd my pictures to my website as jpeg files. That did not work. Then I created a html document in MS Word and ftp'd that file to the site. I can not read it in explorer either. If you have a personal website, and can get the files to the site, how do you reference them in forum messages so they can be retrieved?

The name of the file and your server need to be typed exactly. TimM has a section on his website on how to post photos. I typed this into the "Optional Image URL" box.[p]http://home.cox.rr.com/chriscapell/campegg.jpg[p]Camping again this weekend again. Yeeeeeha!

The big one is a large. The small.....a small. Transported in the back of a pickup (see WessB's photo from the Eggfest). Piece of cake, and definitely worth bringing along! Right now I am scribbling notes on the menu for this coming WILD WEST VIRGINIA weekend![p]Maybe some hackers can help you figure out what you are doing wrong with the photo posting. [p]Once you get it....you got it.

As a graphic artist, my hacking abilities are minimal. But I did notice that you typed in:[p]http://www.dunahoo.com/grill.jpg[p]I think your user name has to be in their so it can find your account. I don't know your account name though.
Example:

Daryl,[p]You are sending the url picture address as:[p]http://www.dunahoo.com/grill.jpg[p]I went there and there is no file by that name available. Is that the correct url?[p]If you can't see it on your browser before you post it - then we can't either. I suggest everyone should type in the url they are about to post - then highlite it - save it to the clip board (ctrl-C) and then paste it in the Location Field (Netscape) or Address Field (Explorer) and see if it goes to a picture. If it doesn't -- don't post it until you find the problem. If it does come up with a picture, then hit your browsers back button to go back to the posting form on the BGE forum and post knowing your picture will be seen by all.[p]Tim

<p />Tim M,[p]Thanks for your tips, and the great instruction sheet on your web-page. I hope someone can help me understand this. In the public_html directory at my website host, there are several files. Included are:[p]http://www.dunahoo.com/grill.jpg
http://www.dunahoo.com/image001.jpg
http://www.dunahoo.com/image003.jpg[p]The files grill.jpg and image001.jpg are identical, same size, same description, same extension, same number of pixels wide by tall, look the same, etc. Explorer can retreive image001.jpg, but not grill.jpg[p]The third picture is the other one I was trying to post last night. I will attempt to insert image001 into the message and link to image003.[p]any ideas on what may be wrong?[p][p]

Daryl,[p]I can't get anything from the grill.jpg file either. Are you sure its there and not drawing from a cached file. Reboot and see if you can still get to it. I am guessing you won't - if you do there is something else going on.[p]Tim

Tim M,[p]I used my FTP software to retreive it together with the other pictures from the web-host. I then opened each picture with my image viewing software. The pictures on the web-server are identical. Only the names are different. I am completely stumped![p]

Daryl,[p]Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,[p]you said the file name was http://www.dunahoo.com/grill.jpg but it is in fact[p]http://www.dunahoo.com/Grill.jpg[p]Note the capital G in Grill! Unix servers use caps as TOTALLY different characters. Always use lower case.[p]Tim

Tim M,[p]Thanks Tim![p]You solved my problem. And I was just about to conclude that my camera was saving pictures in some obscure jpeg format that could not be read unless it had been opened, and re-saved to a different file name. That really did not make sense, but typing all lowercase for url's has become so natural that I did not notice the difference![p]I guess this is a lesson I won't soon forget.
