For it to go away.  Best you can do is break even-at least in my world.  Now fast forward to 3/14 and you will get a totally different perspective =)
There are some Yuge Valentine's day surprises that have been rolling in on the forum.  Best of luck and there's still time.  Have a great evening B)

A: Make a good dinner on the egg and forgo any gift exchanging. (I’ll leave the rest out after dinner)

My wife and I have a saying that puts our unique twist on a worn-out phrase.

    ””Dirty wife, happy life.”

(edit: or alternatively, as she just reminded me, “kinky wife, happy life.”)
    I’m envious :-)

Is a glass of Islay Scotch and a cigar too much to ask?

@Sea2Ski -  always remember, "No good deed goes unpunished!"  At least the guests will enjoy since you are doing all the work.  Dang...

We’ve dwindled celebrations/expectations to home cooked steaks and roses from Costco. I’m fine with that.

    Did I miss our invitation?
I absolutely understand  the situation, as we have had a similar event.

Peace and quiet, a wonderful evening with My Beautiful Wife, thanking her for putting up with me.

There really should be more days for this. I am a very fortunate man.

    Hope everyone enjoys the day.

I'm hoping to get taken out to dinner at Le Bernardin when we go to NY in a couple of months.

Just be quick on the trigger when the reservation window opens and then bring a few credit cards to cover the experience   B)

About 3 weeks ago I tried to get a reservation at ANY restaurant in San Antonio that costs at least $100/plate. None were available. So we’re going to Saltgrass Steakhouse. Saving me money.

And no, eating anything at home on Valentines Day is not an option.  SWMBO sees dining at any place that has table service as preferable to any meal in any private home no matter the quality of the food.

She's the big earner, so it'll be her cards.  I got the theater tickets and hotel room that are the presents for her and our daughter.  I'm definitely lucky that she would rather have a weekend or experience rather than more jewelry.

My condolences, eating out on valentine's day is an absolute sh!tshow.  Too many people and WAY too many people who only eat out 3x/year and don't realize that servers and cooks aren't their personal domestic help.

Talk to *any* chef and he will tell you it's the worst day in the year to go to a restaurant.  Service and quality will be sub-par.  Go the day before or the day after.

I don't believe that anybody goes out only 3x/year.  If so, then I'm a fan.

The worst day in the year to go to a restaurant, for breakfast, is New Year's Day.  Crowds are just as bad, and most of the help calls in "sick".

In my books, eating out on Valentines Day is doing it right. No restaurant required.
