last night's prime rib and latkes

first night of chanukah . ..and it was prime rib on the egg, along with latkes served with apple sauce and sour cream ... great dinner ... [p]IMG_0629.jpg[p]a little closer... [p]IMG_0633.jpg[p]great hunk of cow!! . .crusty end slice for me, served with some horseradish. .yummy[p]IMG_0631.jpg

  • hi steve,[p]tonight we have hockey tickets, so its burgers and dogs for dinner down at the hockey game ... tomorrow is chanukah at my parents, and i'll be doing the 'jewish brisket' on the egg and taking it to her house ...[p]went downtown to the butcher today and bought two big (one has to be at least 15 pounds)packer briskets. ..i'll trim one out tonight for tomorrow ....the other one will get smoked for an office party on wednesday .. .

    latkes = potatoe pancakes ... grated potatoes/onions with a little flour and egg to bind them up. . .fry them in a pan with vegatable oil. . .serve with apple sauce and/or sour cream .. ..greasy and oh, so good!!

    prime rib is actually one of the easiest things to do on the egg. will accept all kinds of treatment, from simple salt and pepper, to herbs, to garlic, to a rub like dizzy cowlick, or any combinations ... . you can go sear and roast, or roast and sear, or slo roast and sear. . .its all good . ..just make sure to not overcook. . .[p]here is a link to how i do them. ...

    man, i already have that page in my favorites. i just need some meat.[p]if you don't make your horseradish fresh, you should try it sometime. i can send you a starter if you want. this stuff grows like a weed and will not die.

    well, while i was picking up those briskets, i also snagged a prime hanger steak. .. so we'll have that one night. .. have to take the wife to the mall on monday night to get her hair done, so it will probably be the 'food court' on monday night. ..the rest will figure itself out as it comes. . .

    LOL. ..what's worse is that i make the family wait till after i've taken the pics to say blessing over the food and start eating!. .they get really pissed. . .haa

    it was 125 in the dead center when i pulled it. . .let it rest under foil for about 10 minutes prior to slicing ... .
