OT - DIY fire pit (Solo Stove) ?
Options
I know there's some pretty bright minds on here. Anyone feel like coming up with a cheaper DIY version of this? The concept I'm seeking to replicate is the smokeless-ness of the fire.

Washing Macine Drums work great ...you can get them for nothing

I saw the washing machine drum hack, but it doesn't seem to address the smokeless feature.

With wood you get smoke...their claim is minimize, they do that by a lot of airflow to keep it stoked , the hotter the fire the cleaner the smoke..the holes in the drum give great airflow to keep it stokedVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

I don't have a good solo stove hack, but I do have the solo stove. I know it is expensive, but it is really nice. Once it is going the smoke is very minimal, a very impressive engineered design. I have a family member with bad asthma and she couldn't normally get near a fire, but with this she doesn't have a problem sitting right by it once the fire is burning well. It's almost like the smoke disappears.

I just watched the video ....that is very small so I assume you want portable which the washer drum,is a bit big for that....if you don't need portable give tje washer a shot ,Visalia, Ca @lkapigian

Not really concerned with portability. More the smoke reduction. But per your suggestion I'm still trying to source a drum on Craigslist haha.

I know someone who's an appliance service technician. Apparently they replace the entire drum assembly to avoid excessive labour cost in removing/replacing some corroded aluminum part that was attached to it.canuckland

I wonder what it would cost at a metal scrapyard. I'm sure they would only give a fella $2 for one at the ones here, so maybe a 10x markup to $20 haha

So I finally sourced a washer drum on craigslist yay. Am I supposed to coat it with some type of flame proof paint?
