Heavy Gauge XXL-style Grate for L/XL?

Saw an XXL up close over the weekend and was surprised how heavy duty the stainless grate was compared to my XL. They looked to be 1/4" thick stainless bar. Anyone know if you can get these for other sizes? Would love to have one on my XL.

Functionally, I guess it would make for better grill marks than the stock grate... without the hassle of cast iron. But really i just like the heft of it. The 3rd party stainless grates were a great improvement over the original BGE grate back when they were porcelain coated. The porcelain would chip off and the grate would rust.TEXASBGE2018 said:Just curious, what would be the advantage to the thicker gauge?
With all the other grill companies using stainless as their standard grates, BGE also upgraded. Now there is not big reason to go custom. Yes, they look awesome and make pretty grill marks. But they are heavy and also reduce air flow compared to the standard grate. Just my 2 cents.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -

The flip up grid isn't a strong selling point when paired with the egg. I could maybe see it being beneficial when paired up with other grills. I can only recall using it a couple times when forgetting to throw in some chips or small chunks before a cook.DoubleEgger said:

I ended up getting the grid from another egger for a bag of Rockwood. $140 is alot of coin for a grid. I'm not sure if I would have bought it on a whim. I really like it though. The $140 is much more justifiable since I've put it to work the past couple years. It's big and heavy. It doesn't move around in the egg and is easy to clean. The grid screams quality. I also texted him and he never replied. He did reply yesterday to my email though. He is still very much in business. $220 + shipping for the all 3/8" thick stainless rod without hinge with 1/2" spacing.

I think a ton of restaurants use aluminum fry/sauté pans over an open flame. Also, I’m not a chemist, but I believe there are some real bad things that can be generated from hot work on SS. QUAL612 I have an XL egg. I am not on the "aluminum is toxic" bandwagon, but there is lots of data out there saying it is bad. Just google search "is cooking with aluminum toxic". I did, and it seems as though aluminum carries FAR MORE risks than stainless steel. Aluminum is also WAY softer, bends easier, cuts/dings easier, and generally not as durable.pgprescott said:

If you are hung up on this, that’s fine but you should really look closer. It’s a phenomenal product.
