Home from Argentina - lots of great foods (pic heavy)

Just spent the past 7 days in Argentina, traveling to the duck mecca in the south. Had some hang ups in the airport day I was supposed to depart, lost 2 hunting days but remainder of trip was great.
Spent the past several months carving my own blocks in preparation for this trip. Everyone who went is a decoy Carver; so all birds were harvested over hand made rigs.
Breakfast was pretty simple...2 eggs over easy every morning. However lunch and supper consisted of a 3 course meal each feeding. The guide's wife was a gourmet cook. Lodging was clean and simple ..food amazing
Beef and parmesan keesh
Argentine Perdize (quail) pan seared in garlic then smoked over open fire . All meats cooked with eucalyptus wood. Interesting, but not a bad flavor.
Chocolate covered Carmel and vanilla icecream....all this was one meal ...
Supper was chimichurri covered mashed potatoes with European hare stew...absolutely wonderful
Dessert was a mint chocolate cheese cake to die for
This was just all in one day...I'm scared to get on the scales now that I'm back home.
We ate like that all week.
Duck hunting was awesome. Made a bunch of new friends. Had heard of these guys in name only before I got invited down.
Birds were beautiful. Sunrise and sunsets amazing.
Had snow on us last night as we were leaving on the airplane.

Had my duck dogs under the care of my gf while I was gone, and since we were gone so long we convinced the owner to take us souvenir shopping on the way back to buenos aires.
For lunch we stopped at a 200 year old family ran sausage / salami / cheese / vineyard all in one stop.
Food did not disappoint..
I am not a wine connoisseur at all, but did partake in a canesyrup based pepsi... so much better than products up here
Lunch was basically a cold cut sampler of the products in store

Ha @thetrim, not really but yes. Me and my hunting buddy had planned on making the trip (Carver as well) however alot of unplanned events happened for him this year. So he put me in touch with one of the guys he had contacted about going ...so I joined their group instead

Dang that looks great! Argentina is definitely a bucket list spot. I know from the many Argentinean restaurants and markets in and around Miami, that they know food and they know meat!

Awesome trip- on my bucket list for sure.
I was in Cordoba late last year and I flew home with 5 guys that had been on an epic dove hunt.
The stories are insane, and don’t get me started on the food I had while there.
Glad you had a good trip and thanks for sharing your pics.Greensboro, NC -
Awesome trip. Love seeing these adventures and the local cuisine combined. Hare stew? One big bowl please!
And that charcuterie and cheese plate? Was that yours or to share?
Question about the birds. I know it is very, very difficult to get meat or any animal products through customs. I suppose you ate the birds there? Had them shipped back maybe? Looks like you harvested quite a few.
Glad you had a great trip!!--------------------------------------------------

Great story and photos (though I'm sorry the one with the hunters and all of the water fowl was a little blurry -- I would have loved to zoom in on all of those colorful birds and really study them). It looks like a great time!

@Sea2Ski, you are correct it is very hard to get birds back. Both I and my taxidermist were very disappointed...she was expecting a big check
But the problem is not from the US side. It is from the Argentine government . From what I can understand/ translate.Since alot of the duck hunting was cash business vs CC. The estancia owners weren't reporting true profits; and as a way to punish them made exporting birds illegal. This is a pretty recent change. Honestly if I had known prior to booking I might not have went. That being said it was a great experience.
Our guide told us of a guy last year had paperwork out the arse, had inspection certificates etc and a valid hunting license, and a letter from outfitter stating required info. However because he didnt have a document or 2 from the officials that be, he spent a day in Argentina prison, lost his flight and had his birds confiscated...so i didnt even want to try and risk bringing back.
But yes we did eat a huge portion of ducks.
Had duck empanadas with several meals, duck breast a couple of nights.

Fantastic. Thanks for sharing your trip!
I will get there (and Patagonia) one day and probably on the same trip. I think it is in our top 10 at this point.

That looks like a fabulous trip. Very cool that you are hunting over decoys that you carved. The food looks delicious. Thanks for posting.Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"
