Thanks for sharing, tip of the cap for a great write up. Enjoyed reading, it brought back great memories of being off shore, blue water, and lines spinning (though I've never been involved in anything near as crazy as your day).
Food looked great too.....

I've fished the grass line out of Morehead City NC most of my life and story like this is incredible. Glad you guys made the most out of a very rare event. Nothing like every reel in the water exploding at once much less getting to witness first hand a natural phenomenon. This is fan freaking tastic. Nothing better than a day of fishing when it's just chaos catching on the boat.
I would be eating seared tuna every meal for a week! Thanks for sharing."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

@Jupiter Jim I admit that I was wiped out. My forearms were jello. Lower back killing. Bicepts were trembling and burning. We all took turns shoving our arms in the cooler with the clean ice for relief. Call me what you want - but I could not have fought another fish like that. I know you are ribbing. Wish you were there to experience it with us!

Outrageous story. Nothing like fish straight from the water. And exposure to nature is mesmerizing when you see something new. Here on LI Sound the Striped Bass have been hitting good since the weather improved enough to go out. The Fluke are just starting. Good eats so far! I have to head way North to even try for Tuna.

I would have said that was an epic adventure/tale, but it sounds like there will be more.

@caliking we have good adventures, but this trip was indeed special for us for the fact that all the pieces came together. We did the research, but for the first time, nature, which is the biggest variable, cooperated, but at the same time reminded us that sometimes we are nothing more than part of it, not above it. From watching as an observer as things were out of our control, to actively taking part and advantage of events to accomplish what we wanted to do (just as the whales were) was awe inspiring event for all of us.
Hopefully we do have ave another one soon!--------------------------------------------------

All these great comments. Thank you everyone! I honestly thought only a handful of people would like this post because it is so focused on the experience, and not the cooking. Funny, no one commented on the dish ha Ha Ha Ha... here are a few more pictures:
Whales resting after the feeding and after our fight as we made our way back for a possible second round. I remember saying out loud “Thank you guys, could not have done it without you!” when I took the picture.

Mark I woke up the night of your first post at like 140 am and made my way to the bathroom for my nightly check of the plumbing after determining the plumbing to be in good working order and back in bed I started thinking about your fishing adventure reminisced about some of my finer trips out on the ocean, it dawned on me that you guys had 8 lines in the water at the same time! I don't think I have ever had more than 5 can only remember one trip where we had all 5 lines hooked up at once large school of giant Blue Fish that we pulled the lines and ran from them only keeping a few to make smoked fish dip. So hooking up 8 Bigeye at once is just mind boggling! took me quite a while to fall back asleep thinking about your trip.

I looks like you are as good a fisherman as a story teller! What a great post. It is absolutely awesome to be out in nature like that; being a part of it and experiencing it that way. That cooler pic is tremendous!Charlotte, NC
