BGW Electric Starter - repairable?
orchestrotica
Posts: 1
Hi folks,
First post.
My BGE electric starter is probably 5 years old and seems to have a short in it; it trips the outlet or breaker on the circuit when plugged in. Removing the handle doesn't show any obvious wiring issues. Anyone have any tips on whether this can be repaired? At $70, not a cheap replacement...
thanks,
Brian (Cambridge, MA, USA)

My guess is, after 5 years (a VERY good run) the element is wearing out and the resistance is increasing, thus tripping the circuit breaker. I have a GFI outlet that trips all the time on mine.
A replacement will run you about $15 at Home Depot or Lowes. Not quite the same big design, but hell, you can buy 2 or 3 for the price.1 LBGE in Chapel Hill, NC -
My recommendation would be to toss it and invest in a propane torch or something similar."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

I egg on my driveway. I light it with a weed burner. While I'm waiting for VOCs to burn off, I'll actually burn weeds.Flint, Michigan

At $14 a year I think you got your money’s worth. Buy new or get a torch.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

Disappointed in this one, lasted less than a year, used it about 3 times a week. Going back to the fire starter blocks, for the MiniMax I can use half of one to get it started. Got 60 for $20 off of Amazon.
